Alison Jay was born in Hertfordshire and grew up in Derbyshire UK. She studied graphic design at the London College of Communication and specialised in illustration. She graduated with a first class honours degree.
Alison was nominated for the Kate Greenaway prize for ‘Picture this” and won the Transworld Children’s book award in the AOI Images Best of British illustration. Alison was nominated a second time for the Kate Greenaway prize for her wordless picture book “Out of the Blue”.
Alison Jay's beautiful illustrations have enhanced many children's board and picture books over the years, including the lovely 'William and the Night Train', and 'Picture This'. BEE & ME is Alison's first self-authored picture book and comes from the heart.
Alison works in Alkyd paint, which is a quick drying oil paint. She sometimes then coats the illustration with layers of varnish to give the aged crackled effect.
